It has created a ‘global village’, increasing cultural exchange by means of technology development, particularly in transport and communication. However, this development cannot sidestep the fact that globalisation, because of its liberal character, is unable to address the current key challenge of sustainable development: the conciliation of economic growth with social justice and the protection of environment against pollution. Having begotten worldwide economic and social disparities and rampant financial crisis depressions, and facing powerless the apocalyptic plight of global warming, the phenomenon is the main cause of the rise of the global anti-systemic currents, such as the broadening anti-globalisation civil society movement and the staggering Islamic terrorism.

The disorientation of this normal course of globalisation lies in its deviated liberal kind, which has propagated the false notion of liberty as absolute freedom. The author in these lines adjusts the course of this decisive phenomenon by bringing humanity back into her natural position—that of the bound liberty—on the grounds of Albert Einstein’s theory of general relativity. The notion of bound liberty is expressed in general relativity through the latter’s three principles: (1) spacetime is curved; (2) spacetime curvature is creature by stress-energy within the spacetime; and (3) inertial motion is geodesic motion. These principles of the system of physical universe are transposed into the proper, corresponding system of political community—coined Christocracy by the lecturer in his 1996 dissertation for an honours degree in philosophy, at ISPL-Cardinal Malula University, Kinshasa, DRC—sweeping aside the inappropriate political systems of liberal democracy and socialist democracy.

The Christocratic society, like spacetime, is curved, and each person moves freely within her orbit (curvature). This can be realised if is upheld as truest in social sciences the following perspective: the Christocratic worldview, Pleromism. According to the latter, Christ Jesus, the revealed Logos of God and the systemic core principle, is the stress-energy that creates society curvatures for individuals to move in around him. Thus the citizen of the Christocratic state has an inertial motion, i.e. an inalienable unique identity, which is made of his innate and acquired potential and a passion driving him to its fulfilment. Yet his inertial motion is geodesic: the trajectory towards his fulfilment, instead of being straight, well paved as a highway for motorists, is rough, beset with curvatures, in conformity with law of self-sacrifice symbolised by the cross of Calvary. Therefore, into the Christocratic world, and thanks to the law of love-energy, globalisation attains its genuine achievement.

1. INTRODUCTION

To paraphrase Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, mankind has entered the final phase of compression on earth since the last century, being conditioned by the spherical dimension of our planet and of the universe in general. Thus the tide of totalisation (or globalisation) had begun, even though many liberals are burying their heads in the sand, like an ostrich, before this reality. This has entailed the clash of civilisations and the consecutive crisis within either of the concerned cultures. For instance, totalisation begot the collision of liberalism and Islamism vying for global hegemony, as exemplified in 2006 by the wave of protestations in the Muslim world in the aftermath of the publication of the Danish cartoons derogatorily depicting the Prophet Muhammad. In the liberal world, many people thought that the Danish newspaper was right to publish the cartoons because this is in conformity with the freedom of opinion and of press, whereas others considered the necessity of drawing lines to freedom. In the Muslim world, while crowds inundated the streets violently defying the West, some intellectuals believed that despotic Islamic states are more insulting the Prophet and the Muslims than the cartoons, and that the latter are relevant insofar as they raise the need of democracy and liberty in this part of the globe. In short, the Danish cartoons revealed the certainty of globalisation and simultaneously exposed the failure of its current liberal type, just as is the case with the socialist type, to win and fusion minds and hearts.

The object of my intervention is to situate the disorientation of the normal course of globalisation in its deviated liberal kind, which has propagated the false notion of liberty as absolute freedom. John Locke, the paradigmatic thinker of liberalism, defining liberty as the substance of humankind, argues that humans are naturally in “a State of perfectFreedom to order their Actions…as they think fit…without asking leave, or depending on the Will of any other Man”[1]. The basic idea underlying this claim is that freedom is unlimited unless any attempts to draw lines for it by the government are justified. Liberal philosophers have based this justification upon diverse foundations. I shall highlight here three of them since they are deemed the dominant ones over almost all liberal democratic nations.

First, the harm principle: freedom can be restricted if and only if its holder exercises it in way of injuring others. John Stuart Mill argues that “the only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others…In the part which merely concerns himself, his independence is, of right, absolute. Over himself, over his own body and mind, the individual is sovereign”[1].

Second, the ideal of freedom as autonomy: It refers to the uniqueness of the person, to her being an end in itself, as proclaims Kant. The British neo-Hegelian Thomas Green rightly adds that freedom as autonomy implies that one is self-oriented, unconditionally aiming at one’s own long-term goals, and not sacrificing them on the altar of enslaving compulsions or short-term pleasures[1]. Amongst the compulsions that keep humans in bondage are alcoholism, all kinds of addictions (e.g. related to drug, sex, pornography, aesthetician perfectionism, etc.), homosexuality, and the cult of money. Furthermore, liberals attach to the ideal of freedom as autonomy the right of private property and enterprise, and the claim of market as the foundation of society.

Third, the social contract theory: Commenced by Thomas Hobbes and crowned by John Rawls, and having as its starting point the belief in the natural freedom and equality of humans, it stresses the necessity of promoting them by limiting freedom within a set of principles agreed to by all society members in the state of nature (original position) so that be avoided the enslaving of some people by others. Thence, Rawls set up his first principle of justice: ‘Each person is to have an equal right to the most extensive total system of equal basic liberties compatible with a similar system for all’[1].

Notwithstanding these three bases of constraints to liberty, liberal societies throughout the planet have failed to attain the goal of freedom for all. The reason of this failure lies in the infirm character of the abovementioned constraints.

Mill’s harm principle is crippled since it wrongly establishes that there is a place where one’s acts cannot harm others: one’s solitary body and mind. In other words, a lonely microcosm is a lieu of human sovereignty. The problem is that, insofar as ‘no man is an island’, as rightly points out Joel Feinberg[1], there is no action occurring anywhere which cannot affect others, positively or negatively. A financially self-reliant person, who would decide to live lonely in wilderness and to indulge every moment in alcoholism, would harm at least whosoever loves her or invested many means for her reaching her high financial standard: parents, siblings, friends and the state that guaranteed her education and security.

Green’s ideal of freedom as autonomy, reverberated into by Kant’s teleology, though praiseworthy, is not distinctly freed from the materialistic prison of market and consumerism set up by fellow liberal Adam Smith and his followers. In other words, Green’s human is torn between the pressure of lofty, long-term goals to achieve, and the solicitation of her infinite animal urges incessantly aroused through marketing by goods and services supplied by the capitalist society. Unfortunately, the latter often overcomes the former in human soul, as it is easier to reach the base of a mountain from the top than its summit from the bottom.

The liberal state’s social contract is deficient for two reasons. On the one hand, its principles are not morally binding, i.e. it lacks a moral consensus. This leads to the fragmentation of society, given the multiplicity of conceptions, often contradictory, of the good in the part of group identities, interest cartels, and individual selves. To borrow AlaisdairMacIntyre’s metaphor, liberal society is a ‘collection of strangers, each pursuing his or her own interests under minimal constraints’[1]. Hence is begotten a permanent social conflict insofar as different and opposite interests are clashing in their quest of hegemony; and the inability to settle them brings the state, notably the judiciary power, to arbitrariness[1]. On the other hand, the social contract (fundamental law) cannot make man virtuous, i.e. respectful of the neighbour’s freedom and rights.

Liberty as the supreme value of the liberal society is not experienced by all for the organization of the liberal state does not comply with the principles ruling over the physical universe. In general relativity, Einstein’s geometrical theory of gravitation, reigns the elliptic geometry that is contrasted with Euclidean geometry. The difference between the two geometries is as follows: consider two lines in a two dimensional plane (a surface extending from north to south and from east to west), which are both perpendicular to a third line. In Euclidean geometry, the two lines are parallel and remain at a constant distance; whereas in elliptic geometry, the lines curve toward each over, and eventually intersect; thus no parallel lines exist in elliptic geometry.[1] In other words, according to Einstein, wherever in universe matter is present, space is elliptically curved or spherical (non-Euclidean), while wherever it is absent, space is flat, i.e. Euclidean. This leads us to the second principle.

Secondly, spacetime curvature is created by stress-energy within spacetime. A heavy massive object (mass- or stress-energy) curves the universe (spacetime) in its vicinity, and the light massive object moves freely in that curved pathway of spacetime. Thus, in general relativity, massive objects do not impart a force on other massive objects as hypothesized in Newton’s action at a distance idea to explain gravity; rather other massive objects respond to how the first massive object curves spacetime. E.g.: a bowling ball placed on a trampoline will produce a dent in the trampoline, and a light object such as a ping-pong will accelerate toward the bowling ball in a manner governed by the dent, that is, responding to the dent rather than to the bowling ball, it will be orbiting the latter. This is the sameas the earth orbiting the sun or the moon and other spacecrafts orbiting the earth or the electron orbiting the atomic nucleus.[1]

Moreover, Einstein’s equations of relativity predict that gravity, or the curvature of spacetime by matter, not only stretches or shrinks distances (depending on their direction with respect to the gravitational field) but also will appear to slow down or dilate the flow of time. In most circumstances in universe, such time dilation is miniscule, but it can become very significant when spacetime is curved by a massive object such as a black hole. For example, an observer far from a black hole would observe time passing slowly for an astronaut falling through the hole’s boundary. In fact, the distant observer would never see the hapless victim actually fall in. His or her time, as measured by the observer, would appear to stand still.[1]

Thirdly, inertial motion is geodesic motion. Inertial motion means the constant velocity of an object. This can be illustrated by the earth’s rotational motion. Isaac Newton codified it in his first law of Motion: “Unless acted upon by unbalanced force, an object will maintain a constant velocity”[1]. The revolution brought about by Einstein’s general relativity has affected this classical law of motion. In general relativity, the constant velocity of an object cannot be altered by any force since gravity is not the effect of the latter. Instead, gravity being the curvature of spacetime by matter, itmerely deviates in its course within the curved pathway (geodesic line) shaped by a mass-energy in curved space. Hence, it is a geodesic motion, i.e. the particle it animates follows a geodesic line—which is not straight but incessantly deviated in a series of two points, even in way of winding—in a curved space. Mathematically, this is demonstrated by the equation of geodesic deviation[1].

Do these laws of the physical universe apply to the political community?

4. CHRISTOCRATIC SYSTEM AS THE HYPER-EINSTEINIAN SOCIETAL EQUILIBRIUM

In the perspective ofpolitical psychology, I contend that all the above explained principles of the physical universe are transposable to the body politic organized into Christocracy. It is curved because, given the spherical character of the earth, it has been engaged since the World War I into its second phase of socialization: totalization or compression[1]. However, the waves of compression occur in oppressing and breaking down humans, due to inappropriate ideologies, such as Nazism, fascism, communism, [neo-] liberalism, Islamism, and ethnicity. This breeds diverse tensions, including the Cold War, Sept. 11 2001 attacks, Iraq war, anti-globalization contestations, the Congo Wars, and other civil wars in Africa. Therefore, Noosphere in compression needs a ‘Sun’, a nucleus or a personal principle of synthesis.

Secondly,Jesus Christ achieves Noosphere into Pleroma. Jesus Christ is the spiritual Sun of the thinking humanity’s political system[1]. Christ, though the image of the Transcendent God, is immanent, that is, marries the human and the cosmic layer to make them partakers of Godhead. The human layer is the Noosphere (see explanation above) whose each individual—having her own autonomy or centre made of a thought, a passion, and a sensibility—is linked to Christ personally, i.e. to receive from him a godly spark that makes her attain her fulfilment, and corporally, that is, in union of love-energy with others, all together becoming Church, his Bride; so God will be ‘all in all’.[1] The cosmic layer (the Biosphere) consists of the rest of species that are attached to Humanity and become the dwelling of God with the latter. The angelic layer (which I coin pneumatikosphere) comprises all spirits, including the good ones, which are busy in the service of God and His people, and the evil ones, which are opposed to the rise of Christ Jesus and His Church to the total dominion over the universe, and which rule over the nations of the world through ungodly ideologies, such as the abovementioned communism, fascism, liberalism, imperialism, animism, and the like. It organizes nations with the juridical system that stems from Pleromism, the weltanschauung of the new world. To this law are referred, and outside it cannot subsist, the positive law, which emanates from rational deliberation of people or their representatives on unprecedented national and international issues into frameworks such as the Parliament, and the natural law, which is innate and dictated by conscience in every human being, and organizes the physical universe as discovered by Einstein.

Thus, human attains liberty in Christocracy because, instead of being a Homo oeconomicus(the consumer) set up by liberalism or a Homo faber (the worker) defended by communism, the divine law makes him a Homo religiosus (the worshipper). The possibility of becoming free in being worshipper is maximal for two reasons. On the one side, one surely distinguishes the good from the evil insofar as values are clearly and distinctly set up by the word of God. And one of the goals of the Christocratic state is the promotion of godly values and the eradication of vices, in order to put mankind and cosmos into the total submission to God. There is no longer confusion like in liberalism that lacks moral consensus. On the other hand, in communicating with God through faith in Jesus Christ as the Lord and the personal Saviour, the worshipper lays down all his humanity (sensibility, possession, intelligence, reasoning, and will) to Him, and is freed from the gravity of evildoing against himself and others. “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends”, says Jesus (The Gospel of John XV: 13). God, in turn, by grace, gives to the worshipper eternal life and a spark of His godhead, which grants him the power of remaining righteous (obedient to the law) and of accomplishing wonders beyond his natural capacity.

The laying down of one’s humanity to the Most High is a natural law included in Einstein’s general relativity, and makes Christianity the appropriate faith wherewith to emancipate the world from the current chaos. As mentioned above, in curving spacetime, the Sun has shaped geodesic lines (a trajectory) wherein the Earth is moving about it. Another point is that this trajectory is not straight, but characterized by a series of curvatures that our Earth is undergoing. The latter also invests its energy, and is constantly losing it conformably to the law of entropy, to the living of the species that inhabit it.[1] Henceforth, our “mother” Earth has displayed as a model the law that only Christianity follows: the quiet and cordially accepted self-sacrifice for the sake of others’ lives. Saint Paul writes: “And being found in appearance as a man, Jesus humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted him and given him the name which is above every name…” (Epistle to Philippians II: 8-9). The same spirit of obedience to God and self-sacrifice for others is stressed by Jesus when he says this to the future leader of his Church: “Most assuredly, I say to you [Peter], when you were younger, you girded yourself and walked where you wished; but when you are old, you will stretch your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish” (The Gospel of John XXI: 18). Certainly, given that the enduring political ideologies are moribund, having reached the peak of irreparable contradictions and tensions, and having failed to build a better world for all, the advent of Christocracy is irreversible and can be foreseen in the near future.

Lecture delivered on Saturday 8th of November 2013, at the Seventh Trumpet Christocratic Army Headquarters, Johannesburg, RSA.

MARSHALL NOAH BEN ADAM

Founder of the Seventh Trumpet Christocratic Army

Genitor of the idea of Christocracy.

Globalisation is an irreversible trend of the present-day world.
