The 2010 FIFA Official World Cup <\/strong>Kickoff at the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg\/Soweto,\u00a0 South Africa witnessed an outstanding musical extravaganza graced by renowned international musicians such as Shakira, Black Eyed Peas,<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0South African trumpeter Hugh Masekela, Benin\u2019s Angelique Kidjo, Malian singer and guitarist Vieux Farka Tour\u00e9, Amadou & Mariam, Alicia Keys<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

, and John Legend.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the opening ceremony, Joseph S. Blatter, president of FIFA announced, \u201cFIFA is very proud to be in South Africa\u2026.Football is not only a game. Football is connecting people.\u201d Jacob Zuma, the president<\/span><\/p>\n

of South Africa expressed his pride in hosting the first ever World Cup Africa.<\/p>\n

He urged the citizens to pledge their goodwill and support to the great event. Nobel Peace laureate Desmond Tutu also made an appearance at the ceremony all excited and expressed his gratitude to former South African president Nelson Mandela for his efforts to bring the soccer World Cup<\/span><\/span> to the country.<\/p>\n

Hugh Masekela started off the concert by playing \u201cGrazing in the Grass\u201d, and was later joined by Lira for \u201cPata Pata\u201d by the late South African vocal superstar Miriam Makeba. Kidjo and Legend performed a spirited version of Curtis Mayfield\u2019s \u201cMove On Up.\u201d Alicia Keys opted for a cover of \u201cToo Late for Mama,\u201d by the late South African pop singer Brenda Fassie. Black Eyed Peas rendered hits such as \u201cWhere is the Love?\u201d \u201cBoom Boom Pow\u201dand \u201cI Gotta Feeling\u201d.<\/p>\n
