Lukong Nelson: “I’m ready to play for the leopard

The arrival of strangers in a national championship is very often an indicator to measure the reputation of a national championship. So when a few years ago all the Congolese players thought only to save themselves from the DRC, now can be satisfied that the championship Congolese, or sooner Congolese some clubs are beginning to attract foreigners.

In this connection, to enhance this international dimension that we have in championship begins with the arrival of some foreign players and coaches, we decided to open this purpose, a new feature on all those foreigners who contribute to today’s value Congolese football. For this first edition, our correspondent in Kinshasa Serge Tungila and our photographer Mappy Manueno are going to meet Nelson Lukong, goalkeeper from Cameroon who operates today as one of the best recruits of the As V Club and why not one of the best at his position throughout the DRC.

Serge Tungila: Nelson, you have conquered the heart of Congo in just one season. Some even say that you deserve a place in the Congolese national team. Ca te tente?
Nelson Lukong I say glory to God if that happened. But you know, in football there are no boundaries. Steve Mandanda is Congolese but he plays with France is not it? So at this level, I’d say if tomorrow I have a proposal, not me personally it would be no problems.

Serge Tungila: Without hesitation or guarantees you ask?
Lukong Nelson: (laughs) … It should do with my manager!

Serge Tungila: Let us a little about your career. Tell us about your journey for those you find through this site.
Lukong Nelson: I started the boy in a football team in my village. Precisely FC Koumbou Straika. A team that was already playing in elite division called home D1. I was the second officer down. Then I decided to go to a club a little more beefy to prove myself. So I signed 3 years at Mount Cameroon. A team well known on the African continent as it has participated several times in the African championship. Then I was recruited by the Stars of Douala, a team sitting well financially. With the latter, we were twice in the quarterfinals of the CIF – C2. In 2008, we eliminated the As V Club in the last sixteen. Following these meetings, I found myself at V Club.

Serge Tungila: Radios sidewalks say that next season you will be at Mazembe?
Lukong Nelson: No it is not as controversial. Although the ambition of every player is to advance and play in big clubs, Club V is a big club next season so I’d always green and black.

Serge Tungila: The Cameroonian league has produced many stars in the world, have you played with some Cameroonian players known today?
Nelson Lukong: Yes I do my classes with Modeste Mbami and other players who operate in Turkey today.

Serge Tungila: Supporters of As V Club say you’re the best goalkeeper in the DRC this season!
Nelson Lukong: When is the field, we do not know what the fans relate to the galleries. But personally I know I provided a lot of sacrifices to be at our best and that my team is progressing.

Serge Tungila: Are you disappointed that V Club has left the African competition so early?
Nelson Lukong: It makes me very badly. I do not think that was eliminated because it was unaware of the score ENPPI. Only minutes after the game we knew we were eliminated. We were unlucky. This is the first time in the history of the FCA that four teams are left with the same number of points.

Serge Tungila: What are your favorite keepers in the world?
Nelson Lukong: Buffon, Mandanda … You know that if Mandanda remained Congolese it would probably one of the best goalkeepers in Africa. It is very hard! It is the sole guardian of African descent who currently plays the Champions League.

Serge Tungila: And DRC (laughs)?
Lukong Nelson: I have great respect for Kidiaba and Matamp Mazembe of the DCMP. They are also very strong. If they are in these clubs is that they are strong!

Serge Tungila: Thanks Nelson for the interview and small pleasure to see you again next season with AS V Club.
Nelson Lukong: It is I who thank you.
